What to do in Austin this weekend, May 5th 2023-with your dog!

If you're looking for ways to spend quality time with your dog this weekend, Austin, Texas has plenty of dog-friendly activities for you both to enjoy. Here are the top 6 ways to spend the day with your dog in Austin this weekend, May 5 2023.  Links posted below.

Brunch or Dinner on Rainey Street - This popular strip of bars and restaurants is known for its dog-friendly patios. Check out Banger's for brunch or grab dinner at Craft Pride, both of which welcome dogs on their patios. There’s also a plethora of food trucks on the strip to choose from. Afterwards head down to the water and take a stroll along Lake Lady Bird.

12 Fox Brewery - Take a drive out to Dripping Springs and spend the afternoon at 12 Fox Brewery. This dog-friendly brewery features live music, food truck, expansive seating, a kids playground, and even a frisbee golf course. You and your dog are going to love the large selection of thoughtfully spaced picnic table seating spread throughout the property while you sip a cold one and enjoy the vibe.

Cedar Park Dog Park - Located just north of Austin this one is worth a trip.  The Cedar Bark Park is one of the largest fenced dog parks in the metro area and features a pond for your pup to splash around in. They have three quite large fenced areas for your pup to run a round safely in.   After your dog is exhausted, visit The Good Lot beer garden across the street for a refreshing beer or cider and some food truck fare. The ambiance is very cool. It gets busy and is great for people watching.

Riverplace Trail - Are you looking for something a little more extreme? Take a hike on the challenging Riverplace Trail, which features almost 3,000 stairs across the entire trail and is beautifully shaded along the way.  They do charge $10 if you’re not a resident, but in our eyes, it’s worth it!  After the hike, stop by Oz. Tap House on Highway 2222 for a game of foosball, cold beers, great food,  and large screen TVs to catch a sports game.  Perfect way to reward yourself for mastering the trail.

Zilker Park - This expansive park is a classic favorite among locals and visitors alike. Before you go, stop by Half Price Books  (dogs are welcome inside the bookstore and they have treats behind the counter!) and pick up a new book to enjoy at the park while your pup runs free with new doggie friends in the off leash area. If you prefer,  you can always take a stroll around the park instead, take a dip at the dog-friendly Barton Springs Pool, rent a kayak,  and grab a bite to eat at the food trucks adjacent to the park.  They are on Barton Springs Blvd near the entrance of Zilker Park, you can’t miss them.

No matter what you choose to do with your buddy this weekend, just remember to bring plenty of water, poop bags, and be mindful of other park-goers. Have a fun and safe weekend with your four legged friend!
